Learn how you can sign in to Microsoft as a employee, student or guest. Get direct link and know the differences when logging in.

The quickest way to access Teams is teams.microsoft.com, there you will be asked to sign in.

The first thing you will be asked for is your mail address. This is usually your work mail, ex. your.name@business.com. Your mail address is the key to access different teams, both  internally and externally.

The next step is to type in your password, this is one given to or created by you. If you forgotten the password you can reset it from this screen. Note: Some organizations have limited users ability to reset their own password.

The last step is optional, but recommended. It’s called Multifactor Authentication (MFA) and require you to verify your identity with your phone. Everyone should use this, since it’s an important step to make sure none other than you can access your account.

Difference between personal, work and school accounts.

When you want to access Microsoft Teams you need to have an account.

Personal accounts are one that was created by you, it’s used to sign in to Windows 10. This usually end with @hotmail.com, @live.com or @outlook.com. With your personal account you can chat with other teams or skype users, you can be a guest in an external team.

Work or school accounts where created by your school or your company. The difference between these are mainly what license is connected. With this account you can access the resources available in Microsotft 365. This includes teams, files and planning tools. Read more here.

What is a Guest in Teams

An organization can give an external person access to a limit amount of resources in Microsoft 365. This person is considered a guest. Guest access can be revoked at any time.

As a guest in Teams you need to know that anything you create, write, comment or store is owned by the company you access. It will still exist in the company when you lose guest access.

The most common way to give someone access is through Microsoft Teams.

Sign in, log in and login

Different words, same meaning. When you want to access information you might need to verify who you are. This requires usually requires a username and a password. The act of accessing it have been called different things; log in, login or sign in but in the end it’s the same.

In most digital plattforms your username or user account is your mail address, the password is created by you and it should never be shared with anyone.
